Dear Moldflow User community,

I’m pleased to announce the availability of the Moldflow 2026 products. The 2026 the release is coinciding with many other Autodesk product releases and has a lot of new capabilities, user productivity and accuracy improvements.

Release highlights

The main features for the 2026 release are:

  • A new warpage result that allows for easier comparison between Moldflow and 3D scanned data on real parts.
  • Very targeted performance improvements modelling operations (eg. Merge nodes on large 3D models).
  • The ability to save animation in .mp4 format.
  • Export of .zip project archives and .mfr files (Communicator files) larger than 2Gb.
  • STAMP is now the default shrinkage model for 3D models with shrinkage data.
  • Speed improvements on 3D solves and meshing.

Besides this, there are other smaller improvements and new capabilities, and we fixed 91 bugs from previous releases.

Very Important!

  • The 3D flow solver speed improvements are due a more efficient way results are handled, which involved a change in the results data format. Synergy, Adviser and Communicator 2026 will be able to read both the new, and the old file format, but prior versions of Moldflow products will not be able to read results in the new file format. When an 3D flow analysis run in 2026 is read in the 2025 version you will only see ‘Fill time’ results and in 2024 or earlier you will not see any flow results (because the fill time results format was changed in the 2025 release and we now have additional changes in 2026). We recommend people, when moving to the 2026 release, to recommend people they work with to also install the 2026 release (this includes Communicator). We realize this is painful and not following long standing precedence, but the file format change creates a significant speed improvement going forward.
  • A few features have been removed from the product. Most of them are infrequently used features, however the export of animations in .avi and .gif were frequently used. The 3rd party components used are old and were not sufficiently maintained. The animation export is replaced by the .mp4 export. The .mp4 export is supported with an API, and areas in the product are export animations, like the report generators, have been updated. However, if you have your own scripts that export animations, you will need to update them. This should be straightforward by replacing the old .gif or .avi file name in the script to .mp4

For example:

  • Viewer.SaveAnimation "file location\FileName.gif" or
  • Viewer.SaveAnimation "file location\ FileName.avi"

Can be renamed to:

  • Viewer.SaveAnimation "file location\ FileName.mp4"

Getting started

The Moldflow 2026 release is a full new release that can be installed next to your other Moldflow releases. You can download the Moldflow 2026 release from Autodesk Accounts > All Products and Services. As with the installers in the last few years, Moldflow Insight Multi-user (aka. Network licenses) can use either the Moldflow Insight Ultimate or Moldflow Synergy installer (as they are the exact same, for Windows).

Using the ‘Custom Install’ option, you can create an installer that includes license type and license server information, and IT Administrators can create deployments that can help with the roll out across an organization. During creation of the custom install/deployment you can specify the license type you use; ‘Network’ or ‘Autodesk ID’ (for named user). Creating a deployment this way is highly encouraged specifically for companies using Token Flex (TFLEX) licenses.

If you do not pre-configure your licenses in Autodesk account, the product will be installed assuming you are using a Named User license. You can switch to a Network license using the Moldflow License Configuration tool (mlc.exe) you can find in your Moldflow 2026 product folder.

@mantd

Hi mantd,

Better to raise installation issues in forum :
Installation & Licensing Forum - Autodesk Community

Or contact Autodesk Support.

@mantd , was the license manager updated with Moldflow 2026 licenses? If the license manager does not have 2026 licenses yet, you can point to the license server, but the product will not find the 2026 licenses it needs.

Speculation though...

Hello @raalteh and @franco.costa

Thank you for this new release with major improvements.

I regret nevertheless that the .mfl format is no longer supported since the 2026.

Do you really think that nobody use the .mfl ?

In one hand this format is helpful to debug a corrupted sdy file, by exporting and reimporting a .mfl (it does not always work with udm).

In the other hand this format is easily editable manually or via a script in order to recreate a mesh with different node coordinates (a windage mesh including warpage compensation, or an anisotropic shrinkage for instance). This is indeed just 4 columns to edit with node number and xyz in one file…

With have many scripts which still use the mfl for different purposes and it will be a bit more tricky to code something compatible with an udm format instead.

It would be great if Autodesk could provide a vbs or python script mpi2mfl available from the installation directory allowing us to export an mfl file as per the mpi2abq.vbs or mpi2nas.vbs.

Thanks or your understanding

Regards

Willem

So first of all, .... I'm sorry this change broke your and your workflow ... We don't often remove functionality ... but typically when we do, someone inevitably has made 'whatever it is' part of their core workflow; so ... we really really rarely remove things if we can help it. That said we had no evidence of anyone ever using the format we abandoned > 25 years ago. Nobody in our team recalled ever having had a discussion where the .mfl file came up in the last 20 years and searching the support database came up empty too. I believe you may be the last expert in the .mflo file format.

I'll send you a direct message and we can discuss this further.

Hanno
