Material data - Moldex to Moldflow

1)Is possible to convert a material file from Moldex to Moldflow file (udb)?

2) If I have the information about the material (processing conditions, MFR, Specific Heat, PVT curve, etc), is possible I create a udb file or I have to send these info to Autodesk do this? In this case, is there a cost to do it?

Hi @Anonymous ,

regarding :

"1)Is possible to convert a material file from Moldex to Moldflow file (udb)?"

> No 1:1 converters available from what I know.

Could you export material data from Moldex in ASCII format, such as a .txt-file?

Regarding:

"2) If I have the information about the material (processing conditions, MFR, Specific Heat, PVT curve, etc), is possible I create a udb file or I have to send these info to Autodesk do this? In this case, is there a cost to do it?"

>  Material file is not in the Moldflow material database
If measured raw data is available (the material supplier may be able to supply this) and can be fitted for simulation, contact the Autodesk Moldflow Plastics Lab Datafitting service e-mail address (datafittingmoldflow@autodesk.com). Use the data fitting service for data fitting of raw data to udb-file for simulation, or questions about data fitting, or re-fitting of material data for analysis.

Autodesk Moldflow Data Fitting 2019
Autodesk Moldflow Data Fitting enables the user to convert raw material data into a format suitable for use in Autodesk Moldflow simulation software.

Viscosity model for thermoplastic: Cross-WLF : you need the coefficients.

PVT : you need 2-domain modified Tait PVT model coefficients, and melt/solid density.

Hope this helps.

Berndt

Hi @bernor_mf

I have another questions. can you explain them please?

1,if our company have tested material by ourself or other lab, and we already fit raw data to be  a udb file, how can I put it into moldflow database?

2,I have learned the procedure of testing shrinkage model (crims), and if i make a same mold to test the raw data of crims model, how can i get the model parameter?  Does moldflow lab provide this service?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous  ,

thank you for notifying me.

1) I think there are a couple of situations how to get access to material data for simulation, as stored in the udb-file:

a) If you mean to put material data udb-file in the Moldflow official database, delivered with Moldflow software,
you need to contact the Moldflow Plastics Lab.
How to contact the Autodesk Moldflow Plastics lab for material data requests

b) If you mean to use the material data udb-file with Moldflow software:
It can be placed in udb-folder such as:

For AMI, Moldflow Insight release 2019 :
C:\Users\Name\Documents\My AMI 2019 Projects\udb

For AMA, Moldflow Adviser release 2019 :
C:\Users\Name\\Documents\My AMA 2019 Projects\udb

c) If you mean to use the material data udb-file with Moldflow software:
A personal database can be used:

2) Corrected residual in-mold stress (CRIMS)
The CRIMS coefficients are data fitted from shrinkage data testing.
I believe the algorithm for this is company proprietary.
Suggest you contact the lab to see what could be done.
