Initial charge option (Rigid or Flexible) with compression molding process

Dear Moldflow users,

Could someone give me more details about the "Initial charge option" setting available with the compression molding process?

What is the difference between flexible and rigid? What is the influence on the results?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Hi Serge,

The option for a flexible initial charge for use in compression molding was a recent addition to Insight 2018.2.  As explained in that link, in previous releases, the initial charge was assumed to be rigid and there was no option for a flexible initial charge.  Now, you can indicate whether it is rigid and maintains its original shape before the start of compression, or if it is flexible and conforms to the mold cavity geometry before compression starts.

Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help!

Kind regards,

Justin Bonfili

I want to clarify a few things here.  Assume I have an inverted V-shaped cavity, and a flat multilayered charge. So the charge will drape on to the cavity, before it starts flowing ?  Does it slips on the charge, or does it stick?  There are multiple pockets on the cavity, and a slip would help. Thanks.
