About clamp force calculation

Dear experts

I'd like to ask a question about the calculation accurate of clamp force

sometimes when I check the result of clamp force, i found the max. clamp force is much higher than actual clamp force

for example

I can produce product on 800ton machine, but in moldflow, result indicate me should use more than 1000ton machine

I am feel confuing

and someone told if we add actual process to simulation analysis, it will be more accurate, i am not sure

could you explain the problem?

thanks a lot in advance

Hi Earlin ,

The clamp-force result is mainly dependent on the orientaion of the part with respect to the global co-ordinate system of the simulation.

I think that's the reason you see a major difference . Please see the following links for the correct orientation & procedure :

Hope this helps.

Hi Earlin,

the clamp force result is also dependent on the injection profile. If you want to compare simulation results with the real clampforce at the machine, you have to use the actual injection profile setting of the machine. Using inejction profile may decrease clamp force up to 50%. Thats my experience.

On the other hand you may have differences if you have a mold with slides. The additional clamp forces for slides are not calculated in Moldflow.

Hi Ram

thanks for your advice, actually my injectiong oritation is follow +Z direction

that means the setup is right ,the coordinate is right .

I mean compare with actual injection process. the clamp force simulation in Moldflow is seem to high

but also thank you

Hi Bernd
I think we have similar experience with you,
if I input actual injection profile, the clamp force will be reduced approximate 50%
so my understanding is the clamp force definition should base on engineer experience in most situation,
thanks for your advice
