Substitute SimStudio with Fusion 360

Hello AutoDesk Team and or especially Moldflow and Simulation Teams (should I do a crosspost?),

Do you ever considered dropping SimStudio and release Fusion 360 as a companion tool for Simulation users?

This is beneficial in many ways:

- Maintaining ONE Tool

- Fusion is a "better starter drug" for IV than SimStudio (maybe) at least when you need tooldesigns later...

- Fusion is an enhancement over SimStudio - sure, but what if released as an "filler" when the developmentcycle was not so ....(rich of enhancements)

- The other tools in Fusion are maybe at extra cost (advanced FEM, ...) so this is a door opener for extra money...

- At least some more parametrics than in SimStudio

- Better meshediting (Using Moldflow results as meshes when CAD export of warped mesh struggles (which it still does)

- More and Frequent updates for Sim-Users (hey when was the last REAL update in SimStudio?)

Marketing wise it is the clear solution to me.

Technically it makes much more sense than SimStudio - especially because of the better maintance.

I'm curious about your opinion (other users and Autodesk of course)

Fusion will be able shortly to push Designs into Moldflow and CFD - as SimStudio does now.

MIght be an easteregg for us users?

pre-empting the Moldflow 2019 launch, but Fusion 360 Ultimate (with all it other goodies, https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/compare ) will be an entitlement for Moldflow Subscription customers.

Cool! Well, - kind of.

As I suggested it (not knowing if that has had any influence on this decision),
I do use it for hobby (3D Prining) at home, but can't use it at work as a maintance customer...

It is not the extra money that is charged, but an additional cad software that won't pass IT structures in bigger companies - if it comes as companion, like SimStudio - no problem.

I wish that would be thought over again by Autodesk.

Hi @harald_goetz,

Fusion 360 Ultimate IS included as a free entitlement of the subscription contract. If you are still on a maintenance contract, the workflow WILL work if you subscribe to Fusion 360 Ultimate separately.

I hope this explains the situation.

i do understand the situation, too good it seems.

Its just not a good marketing decision and I will write down here why I think this way.

As said above it is kind of impossible to add Fusion 360 in an industrial environment, especially in the automotive industrie where only Catia, NX and maybe Creo are "welcome".

Conclusion:

Impossible to add Fusion, - at least for me and many others.

That means it is harder to spread in the unusual markets.

So - is it a wise decision to try to gain 27 € /month or 324 €/anno and have to do work with additional contracts?

I don't think so.

It is in fact counterproductive abd I hope that with the next release of Moldflow 2019 it will be for all users available (Adviser and Insight) no matter if maintance or subscrition customers.

Most users feel like I do as I know from feedback during the Connect! Meeting in Frankfurt.

I keep my fingers crossed.
