Extracting cooling channels automatically out of 3D Toolgeometry

Extracting cooling channels automatically out of 3D Toolgeometry

I made this a suggestion during beta phase of "arro" (now SimStudio).

Since SimStudio doesn't support 3D lines that one can export as IGES to consider them as
cooling lines in MF after meshing...

I would like to see something like here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QukF4VCj9xo

It's from a competitor named VISI - and it shows the extraction of cooling lines from 3D to 2d (or 3D lines).

It would not be to hard: Extracting could be done in SimStudio (it's still harder to use in that regard than Spaceclaim btw.).

The extraction of cooling lines could happen in MF 2016 - since the 3D extraction could be moved on a special layer.

All geometry on that layer is examined and connected 3D lines are made out of it - ready to mesh.

Alternativ a 3D line option to follow cylindrical shapes and draw lines in their centers should be possible in SimStudio (I know
thi is the Moldflow Idea Station, - but there's nothing for SimStudio?)

If cooling is possible, than for runner (cold runner) geometry it would / or should be possible, too.

Regards

Harald

I need to add a video.

Sneak preview of Spaceclaim 2016:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sHzEMWqsGA

Have a look from second 12 to 18.

There is a solid tube extracted to a curve.

It could be that simple (it seems) - can we have that in SIM Studio if not in Moldflow itself?

Understood the need and it's a valid requirement.

Just watched SIM21554-OverviewofMoldflowDevelopmentandResearch-SIM21554

(Autodesk University). 00:40:44 h in the video.

It looks like we get the extraction of cooling lines - Hurray!

Yes Autodesk - you're listening (even if it takes sometimes rather long) 🙂

Hi Harald,

yes, some components had to be developed in the Autodesk Shape Manager (our CAD kernel ASM) to do this. I would keep an eye out for the 2018.1 Technology preview for a first cut ....
