I am trying to separate a hat so it can be printed in 2 colors.  Inside of concave area where head will go, it fills partially in once I generate a complex.  The hat has a band that goes around outside and an aligning pin on the inside.

You'll have to attach your .mix, this stuff is too 'complex' to answer without seeing.

Fill regions are created when you double-click on a face group boundary curve. These curves demarcate the boundary between two existing face groups. The interior sheet that is created will fill in this boundary loop, through the interior of the object.

Your model and your facegroups chosen will create a self intersection with the interior complex (sheet) MM creates. This is a limitation of the complex tool. And alternative is to create your required shape manually with a series of booleans. Otherwise change your facegroup border and guess and check until the interior sheet does not create this self intersection.

Thank you, I am meeting with a friend to go over this as I am way too much of a newbie to understand what to do.

Or just attach your .mix, I'll do it, it takes like 5 minutes.

If you could help me. I would appreciate it.  If you can send a video of how you did it, I would be more grateful.  Your solution was above both our levels.  I attached whole hat, I have been able to remove the ribbon without any issues.

Realized I sent you the stl instead of mix.  Here is the mix.

Not sure what step you need it at, here is after facegroup create.

MM's complex tool doesn't allow you to alter the curvature of the sheet. So you can accomplish the same thing manually by first filling a sheet with inspector with allows you to then use 'replace and fill' to change the bulge slider. Then duplicate that piece and combine it with the other part (and close cracks).  Also your triangle count/resolution was like 10x higher than needed so I reduced it first which makes the tools run 10x faster and not crash. See video:

Thank you for the video.  Makes it a lot easier for me than words.
