Problem with select tool

I've ran into an issue with the select tool.  The paint brush option no longer works.  When I try to select surfaces it just draws a line like the lasso option.  If I try using lasso that doesn't select anything either.  I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled three times now.  The first time the tool started working again then stopped.  Subsequent re-installs the tool hasn't worked at all.  Is there any fix for this other than uninstalling then hacking the bits out of the registry before reinstalling?

At top of the SELECT tool's options flyout is a toggle switch Brush or Lasso. Guess it's set to Lasso and you want to have Brush mode instead?

Note: There's a laser selection in Brush mode if you click on empty space and drag >>> results in a red line or loop which is  2D. This mode is different to the Lasso where you actually draw a line on the surface of the object in 3D. About Lasso mode

That was the first thing I tried...doesn't work.  It just draws a line even when set to brush.  I did notice though that while it acts like a lasso it doesn't actually select anything.

Did you already try to delete meshmixer.ini while Meshmixer isn't running?

MM will write a new ini with defaults at its next start.

Windows: C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\meshmixer.ini
(NOTE: AppData is hidden by default, so you might have to enter that path manually or choose to show hidden files.)

Mac: ~/.config/Autodesk/meshmixer.ini

(NOTE: .config is hidden by default, so you might have to enter that path manually or choose to show hidden files.)

So this seems to be a new issue... Let's track it down:

Did  brush selection work on the same system before?

Let's say it's some rendering issue:

If you try to paint some selection on some object (just imagine you'd paint some region at the object): Do MM's tools options switch to the Select submenus (Edit,ConvertTo, Deform, Modify ) after you finished the selection stroke?

Which system? OS (and version), GPU (do you use latest drivers?), RAM...

Does that issue happen on any mesh loaded (e.g. the default bunny from the splash screen) or on a special one only?

Maybe you can provide some images, videos or files?

I'm at work right now so I can't try any changes or get any pictures.  Yes it worked fine before on the same system and seems to intermittently work currently.

GeForce 980Ti GPU
