Texturing in maya

I'm beginner in MAYA. I was trying to texture a simple geometry but now I'm stuck at this issue (See Attachment).

As you can see there is only one vertex and coz of that my texture is stretching please if some can help me with this....

Have you tried grabbing the other UV's in the UV editor and scaling them down a bit in the U (think that's correct) direction? It seems like a easy solution. UV's aren't stationary, you can move them around to make the pattern fit properly via the UV editor.
