Textures Disappearing When Reopening Scene

Hey everyone, and thanks for reading my post.

On multiple occasions now, I've opened a scene to have the textures simply disappear and show as a light gray in the viewport.

The textures are also gone when trying to render.

Here's an idea of what the textures are supposed to look like for this model:

In addition, the object no longer show UVs in the editor.

Here's what I've tried so far to bring the textures/UVs back that has not worked:

- Pressing 6

- Reloading/Reconnecting the texture

- Clamping texture resolution in the viewport settings, then trying to reload all textures and regenerate UV preview textures

- Rebooting Maya

- Rebooting PC

- Making sure GPU driver is up to date

- Copy/Pasting into a new Maya scene file

So, since this is for an urgent job, I've went ahead and uploaded the scene to my public Dropbox here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9tiz52ry9flq6a8/Synthesis_iPhone_13_Pro_Exploded_110321.ma.zip?dl=0

I apologize for the file size, but this client requires the use of 8k textures, for starters.

I really appreciate any and all help on this!

I'm sorry to double post, but as mentioned this is a very urgent request that affects a client job.

I had to submit a new rendering today, so I was able to work around the issue by simply pasting in the model from another scene that contains the same textures, and repositioning the pieces. This of course is only a temporary solution, as I won't always have access to other scenes with the required textures.

Any and all replies are greatly appreciated, thanks.

That's not a double post Andy, this is okay, double posting is against the forum rules when the same question is posted on the other Forum categories.

The file nodes are pointing to the textures on your drive - normally would load upon opening scene, unless there are some user permission limits. Anyways, what if you put those textures into project structure, such as sourceimages? Using absolute paths (e.g. Q:\project\sourceimages\texture.ext) for the footage is less safe than relative (sourceimages\texture.ext).

Manage source footage folders in File > ProjectWindow.

some of your objects have 2 uv sets. map1 (the default one is empty) and UVChannel_1  (contains UVs).

so either you use uv linking (windows > relationship editors > uv linking) to point the textures to the correct uv set or you copy them to map1 and delete the second uv set.

Thanks for the suggestion @hamsterHamster, but this didn't work for me.

Thanks so much @_sebastian_f , your solution worked. However, how can I avoid having to relink sets in this way? What could be the cause of this issue?

your welcome!
where it comes from is hard to tell from the distance. my guess would be the model comes from a different software which handles uv´s slightly different than maya. i usually have this issue with files exported i.e. from alias or 3ds max. would need to do some testing to see if there is a way to avoid it. also when doing uv´s in maya make sure in the mapping options (automatic, planar etc.) create new uv set is disabled (pretty sure that´s not your issue since naming would be different but something to keep in mind!)

Hmm, ok thanks @_sebastian_f, but these are models that were exported from Maya, then imported back into another scene, so I'm not sure the UV procedure would apply.

And yes, the option to create a new UV set is always disabled when mapping.

Thanks again for your help. At least I have a workaround and shouldn't miss deadlines because of it.

On the same note. When ever am working on a texture on the wall. I apply it then everything is ok. But when I begin working on a different object, in the same scene. Or when I save and reopen later to continue, I find some texture gone.

How do I go about this. Thank u

Please provide steps of how you are uploading your textures and folder path.

So after like modeling let me say a box. and then  I turned into surface on into face options I make it active then I go to Windows and I go to rendering editors then  to hyper shade and  interface opens I go to the middle Maya I go to Lambert I go to color and I  tap checkered black and white and then it opens another interface  I go to the folder logo get the texture, open it , it appears on the shader ball,  then I name it, and it goes under texture, then I apply it.  Then use the UV to make it realistic. I'll do this for all .whenever you open the scene only a few of the objects will have the texture and then

some parts will not have the texture .

I read a comment showing that maybe that the texture has broken or something as broken yes so make another one like upload another one so I've applied another one and placed it on the same spot and I've saved and I've to opened it to the same thing. Some texture missing .

thank you for explaining, first, textures go to the model and not into selected faces of that model, that’s why we  use UVs , also when modeling and UV mapping you have to delete the history otherwise next time you open your file everything could be missing.
Maya will find the textures even if f you haven’t set a project path as long as you don’t move the textures to

another folder or drive. So just finish your Uvs, delete your history and apply your shader and texture maps.
