Simple decal overlay with transparency using Arnold

Hi, I have spent a full day searching forms trying to figure out what is so simple to do in other programs but seems to be overly difficult in Maya. I'm using Maya 2018 and Arnold.

All i need to do is overlay some decals with transparent backgrounds on top of another material so i can control them separately as they are different textures and colors.  Its a model of a watch and i want to overlay decals/ images of numbers and logos over the watch face and dials, the decals are flat and watch (background) material is shiny. I created the images in PS and saved out as Tif with transparency.

I have tried using ai.standardshader and plugging it into coat, creating a mask and plugging it into opacity, mix shader and a bunch of other combos but can figure out how to make this work properly. Ive gotten it close but cant get it where background of image is transparent and i can control the label and background texture separately...any help would be awesome!

Thanks.

Hi

Please follow the instructions on the screen grabs below. It can't get any easier that this.

Please bear in mind that it is very crucial to work with "File Projection node/3D Placement" when applying top layer such as ,parking lines, road marks, labels, stickers etc.. on top of your main shader/shader texture.

Main/1st texture layer blend should be set to "None" in [Texture Layer node] attributes.

Projection layer blend set to "Over" in [Texture Layer node] attributes

Happy Labelling!

Hi there,

Thank you for this. I really appreciate you taking the trouble to put this
together but do check the post date - this was five years ago. I think I
subsequently figured it out. But it's all good because someone might come
across your thoughtful instructions in future.
