Is there a way to reassign a selection of faces from one material to another without manually selecting those faces and assigning them to the desired material?

Is there a way to select faces by material?

Yes but it does select the material in the whole scene. Its in the marking menu in hypershade.

Yes. As Christoph said - you can right-click the shader in the hypershade and select all objects that use that shader.

There's no way just to select faces within a single object that are assigned to a given material?

If you did your UVs  you can select the UV shells that contain that shader.

Usually assigning shaders to faces is a terrible workflow unless you have separated the corresponding UV shells.

In other words, use textures as much as possible, no one wants to open a model with shaders attached to faces.

Ok, I’ll keep that in mind thanks. This is a game asset using a trim sheet
/ tiling material workflow so Idk if separating materials by UV islands
would be viable, esp. since large areas of the asset are assigned painted
versions of the base paneled metal.
