Ramp shader not rendering in Arnold

Anonymous

If I open a new file and create a sphere, then drag on the ramp shader, it appears correctly in my work area but will not render correctly (rendering washed out).

Additionally, in the material viewer, it will render correctly when "hardware" is selected, but not when "arnold" is selected.

Notice in the screenshot below - correct in the material viewer and scene, but rendering just as a washed out purple in arnold render.

I didn't answer, as you didn't ask a question.

You seem to know Maya better than most of us. I was hoping you could figure it out by reading the thread.

The OP said "Ramp Shader", which you acknowledge Arnold no likes. Thus, we must be talking about a Ramp Shader if Arnold won't render. My simple Hypershade fix was just the workaround.

This is an old thread by now. Mental Ray allowed many of us to skirt along without having to mess around much with the Hypershade connections. It's probably fair to say we developed bad habits in favor of expediency. In the post-Mental-Ray world we're all a little bit smarter with the hypershade, as we need to make many of our own connections as we use different renderers, be it Arnold, Renderman, etc....

Question was: "So, a workaround for what?" As you didn't put RampShader in Hypershade printscreen, but a Ramp.

I still wonder, why are you so rude? You've got insulted by mine questioning of your post? Sorry, but I like to ask.

And thanks for noticing 😉 I probably do, as you do to. I'm not ashamed of my knowledge, BUT I am not ashamed of asking, too.

I'm professionally in Maya since 2008, so I'm desperate for many things that were available in MR... this is one of those.

I didn't need that for years, but I do need it now, so wondered if there was anything new, but it looks like there's not.

So, no hard feelings, just hard questions 😄

ps this is really getting personal, so I'll look for an answer elsewhere.

I apologize for rudeness. There could be a language barrier... plus I tend to be gruff on Monday morning's when dozens of people are trying to get stuff from me. Not a good excuse. Didn't mean to run you off.

Apologies,

Hi!

Since Arnold released it's own toon shader i recommend to use

aiToon with Arnold:

In this page I didn't find the solution to my problem.
I don't understand why the ramp node is not working.
When I work in CPU I can see my asset with my shader perfectly, with fall off effect and other ramps for metal or roughness effects. But if I want to work in  GPU my asset is black.
