Particles always render black.

I am trying to render snow particles using nparticles. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to make the particles white. They always appear as white in the editing workspace, but when rendered with Arnold are always black. I am new to the software and apologize if this is an obvious fix. I am using Maya 2022

Yes I have a physical sky. I have in fact solved the problem though.  Using hypershade and assigning an aiStandardSurface to the particles

This was a long time ago and I don't remember fully how I solved it, but I know it was a surface issue, like in my solution use hypershade window to assign a standard surface. It took me probably 6 hours of screwing around with all sorts of settings to fix it. If u have a sky/light source then that should not be the issue.
