Opacity of nurbs curve in Viewport 2.0

Does anyone know any method to control the opacity of the nurbs curves in Maya's Viewport 2.0?

I have a project where I'm using Viewport 2.0 to render map style motion graphics. There are many occasions where I am using nurbs to display constant scale lines (that always look the same width in the viewport, regardless of the distance of the viewer). I am also using display over-ride attributes to give custom colour to these nurbs curves. I would like to be able to fade these nurbs lines to transparent, but so far I have found no solution. It is either on or off. (I am having to hardware render these lines on a separate render layer and comp them in After effects where I can control the transparency, a laborious process).

If anyone has any ideas about other methods to create contstant thickness lines in Myaa viewport 2.0, then I would be very interested to hear!

Thanks in advance
