hi guys
im just working on some lighting for a shot using mental ray area light (yes i have enabled use light shape). I have alot to do in the scene
but i just wondered why you get the sharp lines on the attached, is there no way of smoothing this out or is this how area lights react to walls etc?
I also wondered if anyone has any lighting workflow tips?
also, what is the actual idea behind using lens/light shaders? are they more for outdoor scenes with physical sun and sky?

Hi Jimbo , you can try to switch the area light to a sphere or you can create a polygon box for the light fixture and put the are light inside .... Like a real light in the real world would be inside a light fixture ... Also make sure the light is not huge but similar in size to a real light .
