Maya Hypershade Material Viewer Update Issue

I'm using Maya 2018 and I'm following this tutorial online. The person opens up hypershade and begins to manipulate the values on "Common materials properties". The problem with mine is that when I do change the values the material viewer doesn't update the model/texture  according to changes made as they are changed. I am only able to see these changes occur by switching to another material then back. I do not think my graphics card is an issue as I have a Geforce 1060 6gb card.

I'm having the exact same problem as well on Autodesk Maya 2018. The Hypershade Material Viewer is not updating any real-time changes I make to the Common Material Properties. I have an iMac 27" 2013 with an NVIDIA GTX 775M 2GB card, using Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. Only by switching to another material and back, or closing out and reopening the Hypershade window, will the changes be shown in the Material Viewer.

I don't think this is a graphics card issue either. Seems like a software bug.

Notice the Shader Ball is still dark blue even though I changed the color back to silver. Refreshing the swatch did not work.

I've had the same problem for months on one computer. Started happening mid-project, Maya had been open and working when suddenly the shader ball stops updating and I have to exit Hypershade and then reopen it to see what the shader ball actually looks like with any changes.

I suspect a complete reinstallation is necessary. I put Maya 2018 on another computer a few days ago and the material viewer works perfectly fine. I just can't be bothered (yet) to reinstall on my first computer.

I'm new to Maya as well, and I believe I'm getting the same issue. Video attached.

I found a way to avoid that problem temporarily, when that happens try and press the pause button at the top right, here is a screen shot, for response.png click the button once, wait a bit, and click it again (to disable it, in other words just enable and disable the button)
