So cool bug to ask for help on, Make a grid, scale it up a bit. Get some text under the polygon tab Center it up, throw a light in there and render it with arnold, dont forget to crank the light up so you can see the text. Here is an example, tested it on 5 computers all different configurations. Its consistent.

Hi

You'll have to clean up the meshes; the polygon holes are why that's happening.

Thanks

Stephen

I already posted a reply to the other answer you gave. when you drop the extrude off the objects you can see what arnold is doing to the shapes.

Are you saying that the Text tool that uses fonts from the font library in Maya 2017 is putting holes in the geometry. Why does it render in Mental Ray without incident and why when i import the text as an OBJ (same font) from another 3D application does it render in Maya 2017 fine???

Makes no sense,

JS

mental ray and Arnold are not the same software, and they have different features and limitations.

Arnold doesn't handle polygon holes. So, for example, if you have the letter O that is a single polygon, then you have a polygon with a hole. To render it with Arnold you can use the Maya Clean Up tool to fix the polygon holes.

Hi!

The problem is the missing subdivision on front and back-side. So if you do Mesh -> Triangulate it will render fine. Additional you can add Mesh -> Quadrangulate on top if you wish. The history with all Type related attributes seems to stay intact.

Thanks for the responses, adding more geometry shouldn't be the solution but i really appreciate the answers at least i know whats causing it now.

Thanks again, have a great day!!!!

hi!

Im student and its not about rendering only, simple just export the 3D Type model as fbx and import back to maya will result faces missing and messed.

Also if you add a vertex to the D letter with multi-cut then move mouse over D letter it shows the borders all red and messed on the letter and on every letter which has holes and cant fix it.

Hi!

It works if you use any of the available solutions posted in several threads based on the task to subdivide big faces with holes and more than 4 faces.

Even the Type tool itself has an option for subdivision ("Deformable Type").

On the other side i have to admit that the triangulation option at FBX Export does not work as expected, so you have to do this in the Maya scene.
