Maya 2015 Mental Ray batch rendering won't start

Hey guys

When ever i start a batch render on Mental Ray i get this...

and the render never starts. I have tried exporting everything into a new scene and it still doesn't work. Mental ray works fine in a blank project with a cube.

i Have attached the mayarenderlog.txt file

Any help would be great.

Hi there, thanks for reporting this issue. It's hard to tell what the issue is for sure from the log, so I think we'll need the scene file/project files to reproduce on our side.

Would you be willing to send it, or a simplified version of it that reproduces the problem every time? We could connect via email first: [email protected]

Thanks!
Ryan

The log seem to say that the batch process is trying to render with Arnold, but Arnold is missing the default render options.

That's a good point. It depends which render in the log is the one we're most interested in - maybe all of them?

The last batch render crash in the log is this one:

API  0.0    250 MB warn   302064: while defining userdata "Hover_car_0045:fluidShape2:fldata": user data block has huge size 54000280
API  0.0    434 MB warn   302064: while defining userdata "Hover_car_0045:fluidShape4:fldata": user data block has huge size 54000280
PHEN 0.3    522 MB warn : Color Mgt: Only support RGB & A
PHEN 0.3    530 MB fatal  051109: runtime exception 0xc0000005: access violation
PHEN 0.3    530 MB fatal  051109: runtime exception 0xc0000005: access violation
PHEN 0.4    530 MB fatal  051109: runtime exception 0xc0000005: access violation

which are mental ray messages. I'm going to test with Alex's scene to see which renderer/issue it is.

Thanks,

Ryan

Hey guys

I noticed that too and i uninstalled arnold and reinstalled maya. But it didn't work.

I don't think the issue is with the fluids because i had this issue before i added the fluids.

An update on this one. I believe the crash during mental ray batch rendering, when rendering Alex's file is the same issue as MAYA-52863. We hope to fix this issue.

I'm not sure about the Arnold issue, but there is a mental ray crash happening to that scene when Arnold is not in the picture, and that's one we understand and hope to fix.

Cheers,

Ryan

Sorry, you can ignore my previous post: I can reproduce the problem now in Maya 2015. It is giving me all sorts of 'unrecognized node' errors also. Which other Maya versions was the scene saved in before trying to use it in 2015? For debugging, it's easier if the scene is .ma instead of .mb.

So at the moment this issue appears to be a scene-specific one that we need to determine the cause for.

Cheers,

Ryan

From the log it looks like you're using 2015 SP2 or earlier - it may be worth it to upgrade both your Maya and mental ray to the SP6 version and try it again there. I'll need to continue investigating this.

The unrecognised nodes could be from Arnold because I tested out rendering in Arnold before I rendered in mental ray. So Arnold materials would have been applied to all the objects in the scene at some point. I will try installing the service packs today.

Alex and I synced-up and the latest crash that's occuring is due to a mental ray plugin install problem. He was able to fix that by installing the SP6 mental ray patch separately. (For Maya 2015, mental ray is a separate patch on windows only). On the SP6 download page the mr plugin is listed as:

mental_ray_for_Autodesk_Maya_2015_SP6_Win.msp (msp - 37172Kb)

There could be other crashes occuring part way through frames, but as of earlier today the scene was rendering and not crashing at the beginning which was the original issue.

Cheers,

Ryan
