Mac - Maya will not render Quicktime (.mov)

Hey there,

I'm new to Maya so excuse me if this is a fairly easy problem to fix.

Anyway, I have been trying to render my movie as a .mov file (no .avi option available on my laptop, for some reason), but the file refuses to be created.

I have rendered it (using batch render) 3 separate times, including once where I changed the file path to my Desktop, to no avail. I'm not really sure what to do, and any help from here would be wonderful.

I am using Maya 2017 Update 4, on a macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.3 (17D102).

Thanks a ton,

Emma

Are you getting any error messages in the script editor?

Generally, rendering directly to a compressed video format is a bad idea...
You would be much better served to render to an image file sequence instead, and then build your desired video file from that.

This seems to be the common response, but I would like to know why I cannot render out to quicktime like I did in the past.  Is it a bug or do I need to download some qt plugin?  The sequence thing is what I do to make it work if I am on the mac, but sometimes I like to just do a nice direct compressed render like I did in the past or how it works on PC.
