Invalid Syntax error - UDIM workflow

I've seen other posts on this topic, but everyone is having rather different setups.

I am trying to apply textures to my model. When I select my texture file and then select tiling mode to UDIM (Mari) I get this error:

# Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2023/scripts/AETemplates/AEfileTemplate.mel line 699: invalid syntax

Textures don't tile correctly, can't use them.

Deleted preferences, reinstalled maya. Tried it in 2022 and 2023. No difference. Just finished another project last week and everything worked fine. Why is this 'industry standard' software such a piece of junk?

How are your textures named?

Hi, I'm not the one who asked but I have the same problem.

My textures are called like this:

Have you tried to use the <UDIM> tag in the filename?
