Command keys don't work with apple keyboard for navigating perspective camera

In maya 2016 learning addition - Mac OS 10.9.5. with apple extended keyboard. Various key combinations (alt+LMB, command+LMB, alt+scroll button, command+scroll button) all result in rotating the camera - I have not found a combination that will track or move the viewer over to the left, right or up and down.   I can zoom with the scroll button.   Tracking is the only thing I can't do "picking the viewer camera up and moving it over" that I can figure out how to do on a mac keyboard.

Currently my work around is to keep selecting geo and framing on it and then zooming back out - but this is ridiculous - I know from windows computers how much I really just need to be able to track my viewing camera left right and Up and down.  This is slowing me down considerably.

Do I need to program some keys? or add some short cuts? Please tell me where to do this.

Thanks,

Hello @Anonymous!

What mouse are you using? If it's the Apple Magic Mouse, all I can say is good luck, that thing is a pain to deal with. If it's any other mouse, I'm curious as to why it's not working.

So you're saying that Alt+LMB and Alt+MMB both just rotate the camera? Can you try backing up and resetting your preferences? Something may have gone wonky there and a reset might fix it. Otherwise double check your preferences in Maya for Navigation. It may want you to specify 2 or 3 button mouse.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks for your reply Mike.

I am not using a magic mouse - it's a regular apple mouse connected with USB. It is NOT a magic mouse
