can I use 2 different shaders for 1 object

hello,

when i use a phong for an eye then another phong and make it semi transparent, will i see the first phong? i not mean layered texture or shader.

Not clear, why. You can assign just one shader per face.

To bypass the particularly the layered shaders, you CAN use some multi input nodes to simulate that, like Condition and/or Blend, depending on the effect you are after, AND then only, if the renderer supports that kind of nodes/connections.

I'd still vote for layered shader/texture.

In VFX and animation production, as opposed to games, where render layering is used more, assigning shaders to faces can cause failures, so I have always railed against face-assignments. I would highly recommend using a blend material or layered shader and good UVS and maps to create a surface with multiple materials. As far as the games industry and their best practices, I can't say, but face assignments raise my blood pressure in production.
