OptiX denoiser work with IPR render, but when i render any another way i not see a difference.

Is that how it should be, it doesn't work with other rendering methods?

Optix isnt for animated images. Its for stills only.

Hi!

@Christoph_Schaedl  is right that OptiX does not work well with an animation, as it only takes care of the current image and does not respect other images of an animation.

However, from a technical perspective, rendering a sequence of images with OptiX applied works.

You can render for example a sequence of different camera perspectives or variations of the scene with different settings.

So the answer to your question is:

Yes, you can render a sequence of images with OptiX.

If this does not work for you, please add a scene-file and some example images from your rendering.

@mspeer  Thanks, but how do you active Optic Denoise for Arnold Sequence rendering? I cannot find any setting for that in the rendersettings. I can only see the "imagers" in the renderview but these seem to be ignored for sequence rendering(?)

OptiX denoiser is available only for rendering single images and is enabled only through "imagers".

Hi!

@bhoyle  and @Anonymous .

There is no difference between rendering a single image in Maya Render View and rendering multiple images by using Render Sequence.

So Imagers (including OptiX) also work with Render Sequence.

@mspeer
I can´t find the workflow to do what you described.
When I render a still or IPR I can add several imagers like optix denoise.
When I render a sequence these imagers get ignored. Also the official documentation explains that you have to render EXR with merged AOVs and then apply Arnold Denoise as a separate post-processing step via Arnold/Utilities. There is no option for Optix within the described workflow. (also it´s cumbersome compared to the imagers-workflow for still images)....

Am I missing something? How do you render a sequence with optix imager automatically applied?

Hi!

I can´t find the workflow to do what you described.

- You don't need a special workflow.

Imagers are part of the main render process, they are rendered every time when you render, regardless of the render mode.

("Arnold Denoise" is something different and has nothing to do with OptiX, it's related to Imager "Denoiser Noice" only).

Please try an other Imager like a color correction and tint your image (it's easier to check), then render again, but don't use any AOVs and render a simple JPG image.

Currently I guess you mess up something with AOVs. (OptiX will only be applied to the main beauty pass.)

Then again try the same with OptiX.

For further help, provide a scene-file and your rendered images.

@mspeer
you were - of course - absolutely right. Thank You!
I didn´t notice the effect until I went over board with a lens effect to test it.

Since I got an expert here - what is the difference between using "render sequence" and "batch render"?
I was under the impression that I still have to pay extra for Arnold batch render but apparently it just worked...
(also is there a trick to kill "render sequence"?) Thanks

Hi!

Render Sequence renders inside Maya (Render View) and Batch Render does not require the Maya UI.

There is no other difference.

You probably use the 30 day trial for Arnold.

To stop Render Sequence use "ESC".

For batch render you need an Arnold license.

Thanks @mspeer  @Christoph_Schaedl
That´s what I thought but I´ve been running this Maya 2020 install for several month now.
Was the first time I did a batch render yesterday (because I thought it would not work anyway)... didn´t throw any hints about starting trial of Arnold...
Well I guess I'll see what happens in a few weeks 🙂
