Backburner Monitor showing incorrect CPU availability

Hi all,

I'm trying to get Backburner set up in our studio (as quickly as possible as we've got LOTS to render), but I'm having trouble with our render server. It's got 40 (hyperthreaded) cores, but backburner only sees 32 (in the queue monitor), and when it renders it only uses about 65% of the power available.

I found the above article on the Autodesk website, but it only gives help regarding Mental Ray, but we are rendering using Vray 3.0.

Is there a fix for this (preferably one where we don't have to type in some something in the Additional Options box everytime we want to render a scene!).

Many thanks.

Seb.

Hi Seb,

Have you tried asking this in the Chaos Group forums?

Hello,

Thanks for posting to the Area forums.

Unfortunately I only have information with regards to mental ray. Besides specifying the render threads in the Additional Options these can also be specified in Render > Batch Render Options. In the options you will see Render Threads. Under Parallelism you can de-select Auto Render Threads which automatically determines how many cores to use and then specify how many to use.

Like I said this is for mental ray. However, it is possible that V-ray has a similar setting.

Cheers,

David Santos

There is a Max Render Threads field on the Settings tab in the VRay settings that appears to allow any number up to 1000.  Maybe that will have an effect...
