in Maya 2017 I'm having a problem running any type of scripts. every time I enter to run the script doesn't work instead I keep getting this "line 1.5: Syntax error // " all the time. I tried resetting to default settings and this didn't work soi don't know what am I doing wrong.

If you are using the Script Editor, make sure the tab is the correct language. In other words, make sure you are not trying to run a Python script in a MEL tab or vice versa.
