Write directly to Maya color and depth buffer?

Hi. I have a rendered a number of meshes into an off-screen OpenGL FBO and I want to merge that image with the Maya color/depth buffer depending on the depth values. Do we as Maya SDK users have direct write access to the Maya buffers?
