how to open maya script file (mel)

Hi everyone.I save the maya file but the file is (mel).Is that have any method to open it? Actually before that my file also happen this kind of problem.I just change the file name(XXX.mel to XXX.mb)but now i cant see any .mel .Is have any solution? May i know the reason why my file have .mel?

When saving the file, the File Type dropdown list really shows Maya Ascii or maya Binary ?

Changing extension when saving is not enough.
