Hi!

Neat little tool, thanks for sharing. 🙂

There are a few things I would change though. These are just suggestions, but maybe you find something useful.

1) There are no top down and bottom up views. For showcasing mechanical models, such as the car in your example, a top down and a bottom up view are also often needed. So it would be nice to have that option.

2) The drop down menu for the model only shows geometry. I would probably add Groups, Nurbscurves and Nurbssurfaces to that list. That way people can also showcase models that have multiple parts that are grouped together and also stuff they made with nurbs( like ribbons, controllers, ect).

3) The Dropdown menus for the Image planes only show image planes. Some modellers prefere to use textured geoplanes, so maybe those should also show geometry, you could still shuffle image planes to the top and have a divider after them, just have the option to scroll further.

As you probably can tell from point 2 and 3, I'm not a huge fan of your dropdown menus. While I think that a dropdown menu that procedurally generates based on what is in the scene is very cool coding wise.
It is just a bit impractical and limiting. I would probably switch them for textfields with an attached load button, that adds whatever is in the selection to the textfield. That way the user can simply load the object he needs in, and he can also MMB drag the object into the field or manually type it if he wants to. And he is not limited to object types.

As I said, I think it is a neat tool as is, and it does what it is supposed to well in most settings.

I just thought that I would give you some suggestions. In case you feel like improving it. 🙂

Anyways, have a nice day and thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions on the tool. I hadn't added the top and bottom view as I had developed this for my team as per their specific requirements, however, I do wish to add that functionality for general use case. Totally agree with the other points, especially giving freedom to select the type of references someone wants to use. I'll push an update to the tool once I get time during the spring break!
