Why did my duplicate special turned green ?

Step process...

1. Made a star shape mesh

2. delete the half of the face

3. Select mesh when up to the edit > duplicate special

The duplicate turned green ? How i am able to fix this.

Green usually means a shader is not applied. 

this shouldn't happen, but if it does, just re-apply a shader

How will I apply the shader. I dont know how what is a shader. Do i go to UV> Assigned Check Shader ?

that's a 'material'

assign a materiel to it, the green-color-shading indicates it's missing any material assignment.

 

does happen for me too when duplicating instances and then start to move the copy before maya 'assigned' the material bindings... on larger scenes (not really..happens also on small scenes) you notice a short delay when duplicating as instance before the viewport redraws the new geometry.
