I'd recommend using an Arnold Skydome by going to Arnold > Lights > Skydome light.

Once you do that, in the Attribute Editor, click the small box next to "Color" and add a "File" node.  Then in the Attribute Editor, you can click the folder button to add an image file.

Do you have a scene file you can share?  Or a screenshot of the setup?  It's difficult to understand how your scene is arranged.

If you want to see what's connected to the camera, you can select it in the Outliner, then open the Node Editor and click the "show Inputs / Outputs" button at the top.  This will show you everything.  There shouldn't be any need to "update" the camera though.

A few other problems this could be:

  • Are lights being shown in the Viewport (Show > Lights).  If that's disabled, you won't see the sky.
  • How big is the skydome?  If it's outside the camera's Far Clip Plane, it might be getting clipped.  You can increase the Far Clip Plane in the camera's shape node.

Hi!

What Maya version and renderer are you using?

There was a "Update Camera Connections" for Mental Ray mia_physicalsky in older Maya versions.

Current Maya versions and Arnold don't need this.

At best upload a Maya scene-file showing the problem.

Something (I'm not sure what) in your original scene was corrupting the lighting.  I exported everything except the skydome, then imported it into a new scene and recreated the aiPhysicalSky and now it seems to work.  Try the attached file and let me know if it's fixed for you as well.

Hi!

@Anonymous  and @t_chanma

The problem is the aiAtmosphereVolume in the scene.

It's blocking the SkyDomeLight.
