Ridges visible in polys with Softened edges

I'm currently working on a mesh that is perfectly smooth, however when I cut out a part of it to add some detail and then re-created the mesh ridges appeared. I have tried to Soften the edges again but the ridges stay. I'm sure it's Poly normal based but I have tried two different way of re-creating the mesh and both experience the same issue. I also tried to Average normals but I don't fully understand it and everything turned black. The mesh does have normals.

If there are two vertexes in the same spot, but not welded, the edges around it will stay sharp. Perhaps select your whole model, merge verts with a tiny tolerance?

Do you have any creases?

Your topology seems clean but the top of gun needs to be fixed so the edges disappear , edges are not round on the top part and edge distribution needs to be better balanced .

The basic problem here is Edges close together will produce a sharp look so find the right topology solution for that section.

I've never used that tool before but when I do nothing happens so I'm guessing not? But the creases are still there

I tried a more linear approach of just adding an extra division down the entire barrel of the weapon but that didn't change anything. I'm not too sure what other methods I could use, I will have a jab and see what i can come up with though.

Just upload you file and someone will correct it for you, that's a common issue for beginners specially dealing with cylindrical shapes with holes in it.

its hard to explain step by step.

Okay, So it is definitely Topology based. I have tried a new method and it has lessened the issue massively, I'm unsure if it's acceptable to have a small crease though?
