Hello

I am currentley using Maya 2019 and I am creating a female detective character. While I was trying to create the bulletproof vest I was paying complete attention but at the feet of my character there is  a small duplicate of the vest. I have tried seperating the two but everytime I try to I get this message:

C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2019/scripts/others/performPolyShellSeparate.mel line 20: Cannot convert data of type string to type int[]. //

its not registering them as 2 seperate objects and in the channel/layers editor box its showing output cloth 1 and output cloth 2 in shapes. I have even tried to do the whole selecting the faces and deleting it that way but one tiny face still remains and wont be deleted. I have deleted/ cleared the history but nothing

please help any  advice or solution would be greatly appreciated
