Maya 2018 strange vertex, edge, face move behavior

So I haven't used Maya since 2015 and I just got back into using the new version. The very first thing I realized tho is that I can't move Faces, Edges or Vertices anymore the way I used to. When I select one and try to move it it has a completely new behavior. 

Moving an Edge upwards will make it slide, moving a Face up makes it rotate, and basically nothing I move goes where I want. My current work around is to extrude the face and then to delete the edgeloop afterwards. But this is super strange. 

How do I turn this behavior off? I don't want it.

You probbaly already fix this but I encounter the same error recently and I managed to solve it. You have to go into the tool settings under selection mode and disable the transform constrain. It should stay off and you have to  select also the  Along normals option.
