Maya 2018 Delete Problem

Hello, I've recently transitioned to using Maya 2018 and while some things have really been improved there is a small issue that is really bugging me.

In previous versions of Maya I would often extrude a model and then grow and invert my selection to get rid of the original face only. This was never an issue in previous versions but now routinely instead of just deleting those faces Maya just deletes all of them, usually just leaving one random face floating in space. Now I usually have to use Extract which takes longer and can really mess with my creases so it  unnecessarily adds time to my work.

image 1 (selected faces)

image 2 (inverted section showing properly selected inverted faces)

image 3 (when i press delete everything gets removed instead of just the selected ones)

Does anyone know why this is? And it doesn't always occur which makes it even more confusing.

Hi!

If it does only happen with certain objects it may be a problem with those meshes.

Here it works fine, please upload a scene-file.

Hey in this one I guess the problem could be that the mesh is still attached to a deformer, maybe it's an issue with history, I'm not sure.

Thanks!

Hi!

Yes it's caused by the Deformer.

There are 2 meshes in your scene (but it's only one object, so both will be selected). One hidden mesh ...Orig (before using deformer, but kept as reference) and one visible (after using deformer).

When you invert the face selection all faces of the Original mesh will be selected too and if you delete them all is gone.

(You can make the ...Orig mesh visible to see this.)

Delete history and it will work as usual.

Hi!

I am having a similar problem but in my case is ANY simulation with nCloth, after I deleted the simulation odes, it stays the original plain again!
Even worst, if I selected the faces of this xtra plane, I can delete them all... but one!!
Any clue ??

Solved!

In case anyone encounters this same problem:
 - select the object in the outliner

- RMC the object and select the shapes option

- open the object node and delete the "intruder"

- Be hapy and have fun!

Hope this helps others too!
