Marking menu selecting incorrect object on retina display iMac

When I use the marking menu (usually to try and convert a selected object to verts) it will show that I've selected a different object. I thought at first that it was selecting whatever object was behind the one I was trying to select, but sometimes it'll select one off to the side of the viewport. Any clue what might be causing this? Is there a selection setting that prioritises certain objects over others?
I've attached a video example, where I'm trying to select the vertices of the central cylinder object, but the vertices of the surrounding shell get selected instead.

Interestingly, the issue doesn't occur at all when the maya window is docked on my second display, but comes back if I bring a viewport onto the iMac's main display, so I assume it might have something to do with Maya assuming some resolution settings that might be incorrect, but no clue how i would go about fixing that.

I've reset my prefs and all tools have been reset to default and tried completely reinstalling Maya. I've tried using (and not using) camera-based selection, ignore selection priority, auto-select asset, all with the same results.
I'm using a 2019, 27-inch Retina iMac running Big Sur v11.5.2, trying to use Maya 2022.

Hi!

Have you tried to contact the support directly about this?

It seems that this problem is with how Maya reacts to your display since you seem to have it on one screen but not the other, so to get help in the Forum someone would have to have the same hardware as you and the same version of Maya to even recreate this bug, let alone figure out how to fix it.

Have a nice day.
