Layout multiple objects to multiple texture sheets according to texel density?

Hey everyone,

I've been wondering, could I select multiple objects (all UVd) and have them automatically grouped into the most efficient atlas' depending on a certain texel density I want? Right now I have to manually figure out which pieces fit best together on an texture sheet, but is there was to generate multiple texture sheets automatically and therefor keep exact same texel density across all my peices? Or is there a button in Maya I am just not seeing haha.

If anyone has a trick I would love to see if there is a quicker way of doing this!

Hi @Anonymous

You could use the layout tool and toggle the padding settings so that the UVs take up the most space possible but equal across each shell.

You may still need to do some tweaking with them to place them perfectly but it will do a lot of the work for you!

Let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

Hey,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I know that the layout tool takes care of packing a set number of objects within a single 1x1 UV space, but I was hoping to have maya organize them into multiple sheets. With the current layout tool, I still have to choose which objects go onto which sheets, I am looking to automate that so I can essentially have maya optimize my entire scene automatically.

Hi @Anonymous

Ah ok. If you're looking to do it across multiple sheets Maya can't do this natively.

That said, there are many 3rd party UV plug-ins that may help with this like Nightshade for example.

Please let me know if this information helps or if you need any more assistance!
