Having a weird issue with my object and its symmetry

Hi there, I am fairly new to Maya and I've been this issue for a bit. For some weird reason the symmetry on my object just doesn't work, it works if I put it in world but not in object which is odd. Anyone know a way to fix this issue?

Symmetry feature seems to be pivot-centric by default, e.g. it won't budge once you skin your model and offset in space. However, it comes with additional Topology option:

Once you opt for it, Maya invokes in SelectSymmetryEdge mode, where you can click on any edge that represents symmetry.. after that it should work again + you can adjust the Tolerance option, which is two edged sword, as it also might select neighboring elements.

Sorry, I didn't check your file, I believe the model is ok.

Hey there, I tried doing that but it didn't exactly work as intended, I really don't understand the how use the SelectSymmetryEdge mode proporly.

Is it ok if you could look into the model's axys, and see what's up? 🙂

trying the topology option states that the mesh isn´t symmetrical which seems not to be true by my definition but you have created non-manifold/invalid geometry at the mouth exactly at the center which the topo feature doesnt like. (there is more so make sure you check your mesh using "mesh > cleanup")

object symmetry will work non the less but as @hamsterHamster said it very picky on the pivot and transforms. so in your case "modify > bake pivot" will make it work.

Alright so I did what you suggested and it worked, so thank you. Also thanks for pointing out about my mesh, I will make sure to use more mesh / cleanup.

Once again, @hamsterHamster  and @_sebastian_f , thank you very much!
