Extrude local transform not exactly local

I am currently learning Maya, and I'm following along with a tutorial where we are building a drone. At a point we are extruding some fins from the drone, and my extrusion local transform doesn't look like the tutorial and it's causing some issues. My transform gizmo looks like this

 My gizmoMy gizmo

But the one in the tutorial looks like this

Tutorials GizmoTutorials Gizmo

As you can see, in the tutorial their gizmo has all the arrows point perpendicular to the edges of the face, but mine don't. I didn't see any thing in the Extrude options, and I've tried changing the axis in the move, scale, and rotate options with no success. Is there something I'm missing? If it matters, I'm using Maya 2020 and the tutorial is using Maya 2019.

Thanks for the help,

- David

hi @Anonymous

I think component axis is what you looking for .

the way we model  is effecting the normals even if we model with the same reference image !

try to use component axis at those times it is super useful.
