Complex shapes - buildings...

If I want to model a small town and eventually use for a game environment where the player can go inside some buildings is it recommend to to model the indoors and outside seperately? Currently the basic rendering in the workspace is quite slow. Attached is an almost complete model of an inn (Still want to add a few doors and windows).

This will probably be the most intensive model but I don't know too much about modeling complex scenes. I feel that it is taking too long to render though especially since I haven't added light, texture, or the smaller prop models that I plan to add eventually.

Suggestions, comments and ideas will be appreciated.

What game engine are you planning to use?

Generally - you wouldn't create all the gamespace inside a 3D app for several performance reasons... Many of the commercial game engines on the market have editing tools available for creating the world geometry - and you would import 3d meshes for decor/props, vehicles, characters, etc.
