hey,

So im not going to beat around the bush about boolean in maya but its just Horrible! when you compare it to Modo, cinema 4d!

Speticall we we all saw this at Siggraph!

giphy

Can anyone Recommend a 3d part plugin that allow me to do a similar or a Boolean with large poly count that doesn't crash maya.

thakns

Sorry to be a bit mean about this! but its relllllyyyyy frustrating.

Hi!

1. Example from Maya (without any plug-in):

bool.gif

This also works with a higher Polygon Count (as long as the mesh is "clean").

2. Plug-in "Bool" from Mainframe:

thank you @mspeer for pointing out the Bool tool, i really love what Mainframe dose for maya it amazing.

I should have pointed out that Modo and cinema 4D both rebuild the typology of the Boolean to something a bit cleaner as you notice in the GIF you uploaded. maya Boolean dose not rebuild the typology of the new face. you get on big polygon where needs to be clean up.

Im sorry i should had been more clear on this.

Unfortunately I am are working in Pre-production with concept artists so any chance of getting a clean typology is wishfully thinking and the production dose not allow any time for clean up.

Some of this object are going to be 3d printed.

but it seems the best work flow that you may be pointing to would be to do the Boolean and do a retypology of the mesh.

im open to any other ideas and trying to avoid jumping i to other application as there already way to many! ( concept artists don't want to use maya!)

Hi!

Currently there is no such tool available for Maya.

Please use Help -> Speak Back -> Ideas for Maya... for this.

However you can achieve something similar by using Nurbs or by combining several nodes for Polygons.

Polygon Example (no plug-ins used):

 bool2.gif

i know the Chaos group and Modo Developers guys are actively on the forum arn't the maya guys here to?

@g2m.agent thanks for point that out! i have a nothere post that ask the same about wraping mesh to a geo..

Hi!

Just Booleans + some sort of smoothing.

Hi there,

Please explain this process in a bit more depth.

I am curious as to the process to which the movement/positioning is freely applied to the boolean while the command is running.

Also the smoothing process and which types of geometry are used.

If a video is posted already that might be more helpful to direct me where exactly the video is. If not maybe post a quick video of step by step instructions.

Thank you very much.

I wish maya boolean would work like that, it looks cool. So far Iam using this. The work flow is not that smooth at all but it does the thing.
