Why is this child node only visible in Hypergraph, and not the Outliner?

I created a sphere and a cylinder, then did Mesh->Combine. This left some isolated transform nodes that are still associated with the combined mesh (presumably as part of the construction history) since I can use them to translate the sphere independently, for example.

My question is why is the pCylinderShape1 node visible as a child in the Hypergraph, but not in the Outliner, and if there is any way to make it also visible in the Outliner?
