Weird jagged polys when importing low-poly mesh from 3dsmax

As the title states, my meshes are getting this weird bumpy/jagged look when importing into maya, this used to happen in mudbox too. It doesn't happen with every mesh, sometimes I'll even take a mesh that worked perfectly fine, tweak it in Max, and import it back to Maya, and it'll do it. On top of that, when I try sculpting, it acts weird, and often pushes areas in when im trying to sculpt them out. I've tried changing my smoothing groups, and checking my normals, but nothing seems to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Looks like you have pressed shortcut 3 for smooth mesh preview?
