Weird Geometry

I'm currently finishing the basic mesh of my asset however I have come to a stand still. I could use booleans but that's just never really a good option.

Here is the part of my model that needs to be edited below-

And here is what I am trying to model-InkedColt_Navy_Model_1851_LI.jpg

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Boolean is great in Maya now, at the stage of your model is fine to use a boolean and then clean up.

Oh great okay! I will use that then 😄

I'm currently using Maya 2018, will that matter?

Well Thank you!

I actually ended up resorted to creating a tone more faces to the geometry and using a lattice deformer in the end, but i do still appreciate the help and feedback on the model!:D

Just one extra question what did you mean by cleanup- the actual cleanup tool or just in general? Feel like this is something i should know for future reference is all as i wanna get better with booleans 🙂

Thanks again.

You can use Boolean on your mesh object. Delete history, type a mel script

polyRemesh, after that type polyRetopo. Of the two script without delete history, you can find the attribute editor settings.
