Side affect of bridge

I've made several projects in Maya so far, but I come across a weird problem I don't understand how to fix every time I bridge two edges or extrude a face.

I was creating an object and it was going well until I realize I had made a mess by creating too many subdivisions, so I clean them up by deleting some faces, bridging some edges, multi-cutting some new edges and merging verts. Now even though I cleaned everything up it looks like blocky. Does anyone know of a way to fix these edges or am I doing something wrong? I've also had this problem occur after extruding a few faces on an already high polygon object.

Pictures for reference.

Select Mesh Display > Soften

You can also try Edit Mesh > Edit Edge Flow

Select 3 edge loops, then this command.

It may help some, but it won't be perfect.
