Selecting Faces and Pivot Placement after Extrusion

Greetings All.

I'm having a problem understanding why the pivot is placed on the upper corner of the object instead of being centered.

This happens when i choose extrusion after selecting all faces on the object.

I also notice that after i use the move tool to extrude selected faces, that same upper corners geometry becomes distorted. Below are a few screen shots of the problem.

I tried deleting the history. That didn't help.

Also, is there a quick way to select all of the faces on the back of the object without selecting any of the front faces ?

Its the pivot just for the extrusion as local translate. You can switch it by the little blue button to world, but it will be useless for you when extruding whole object. So its like the center of one of the polygons and the extruding axis applied to the rest fo selected polygons. As soon as you finish the extrude, the pivot stay the same for the object as it was.

Ok. When you click extrude, the pivot is in center of one of the polygons just for the purpose of selecting the way how it should extrude. The way you extrude the one polygon, applies to the others. (like you choose to extrude the polygon in X axis the rest goes in the same direction in their own X axis) After you end the extrude it goes back to normal. Object pivot has nothing to do with extruding polygon.

I still do not understand. but how can i get it to be normal ?

I selected all of the faces and then i chose to extrude.

The pivot automatically goes to the upper right hand corner.

Then when i go to use the pivot as a move tool, that same upper corner where the pivot automatically appears, becomes distorted.

What can i do to make this not happen ?

Hi!

The manipulator will  be displayed for one face only, whatever you do here will be copied to the other faces too.

The position of the manipulator has nothing to do with the result you get when using Extrude.

Distortion can easily happen when moving all faces relative to their orientation.

Not sure what you want to do, but maybe try Global Mode (top right icon) for moving.

I still don't get it.

I looked for the Global Mode and could not find it and i did an online search for it and found nothing.

I've decided to just leave the object as is at this point.

What is that little icon called ?

i want to learn more about it. I also notice that the small box doesn't pop up when i choose extrude anymore.

The box with offset and thickness etc...

Ok. I see that it's a part of the Manipulator tool
