Quad Draw won’t edit

Hello, I’m currently trying to learn retopo through quad draw and I noticed that I often can’t select some of my quads. Most of the time when I hover over a quad, my cruiser turns into an O with a line through it. Some quads I can select just fine, but the others seem to be un touchable. By this I mean I can’t select the faces, edges or vertexes on most of my quad shapes. I have tried to find the solution all over the web but nothing seems to help. anyone know why this is happening?

Hi,

Is your live mesh double-sided?

Just wondering if some of the points on your mesh are behind the live mesh but appear on top because of the way Quad Draw draws the mesh on-top?

A small sample scene would be helpful.

Hey, it isn't double-sized. I opened the same file in an onder version (2019) and the qua-draw worked perfectly. I also opened a file I worked on entirely in 2019 and the same problem happened in 2022. Unfortunately i can't upload any because they're work related.

But something really odd happened: after opening it in 2019, saving it and reopening in 2022, quad-draw worked! And the strangest thing is in every file I try now, quad-draw works perfectly in 2022. After a while, I tried to create a new file (in 2022), importing the same mesh I exported from zbrush previously and quad-drawed in it and worked again... it really bugged me... I can't even replicate the issue now 🤔

Hi,

Sometimes a mesh point in QuadDraw will snap to the wrong surface on the live mesh which can cause issues.

Tends to happen more if you have say a thin double-sided surfaces but I can see areas like the eyelid folds causing issues since the live mesh normals could be pointing is very different directions in that area.

If you switching to the select tool in wireframe mode you should be able to see any vertices that are inside the live mesh and you can move them back outside. You could also check the vertex normals on your re-topo mesh when it happens to see if any are pointing in the wrong direction.
