Problems with MASH and Arrays

Hi

I'm currently having problems getting the MASH tool and arrays to work correctly. I have an object I want duplicated and to follow a curve. It's basically a bullet holder for a bandolier. No matter what settings I adjust though, it won't attach to the curve and each position of them is completely different; they won't align correctly or the same. I've been playing around with the settings, but just can't get it right. 😕 I've even tried following the steps in a few videos, but just can't get it to work the same.

I've recorded a video of the steps I've done and attached my save file, in case anyone wants to give it a try and show me. 🙂 I'm really not sure if I'm approaching it right in my video. It seems a bit strange that you would need to adjust so many settings just to get it into a position over the curve when it should snap to it...? If that is right, surely it would make more sense to just move them into position with the Move tool one by one...? o_O

Hey there,

Problem- the curve is facing the incorrect direction.

Solution- Ref video-1 (attached)-

-First we'll reset the rotation values to zero just to not make the process complex in the further steps

-Create Mash Network from the geometry

-Add curve to the input

-Set the step value to 1.00

-Set the Distance x from mash distribute to 0

-Now the geometry is at place but just facing the wrong direction.

                  Ref video-2 (attached)-

- The problem is explained in this video

-The curve that you create has two ends, starting point and ending point which decides what direction the curve is facing, when you draw the curve from left to right it faces outwards but when you draw it from right to left it faces inwards.

-Hence the mash network will start building clones from the start of the curve which is on the right of the curve in your case.

-Solution is given in the first video just use Reverse direction from curves menu.

                      Ref video-3 (attached)-

-This video uses all the previous steps and finalizes the requested output.

- Method used to convert edge loop to curve- Modify >convert >polygon edges to curve.

thank you.,

Thanks for the reply and the different solutions. I haven't got time to go through them at the moment, but I'll be sure to when I can and then let you know if they/any worked. 🙂
