New to MAYA-need help (low-poly model)

So I'm new to MAYA (just started 2-3 days ago) and today I tried to make a low-poly tree. Above is the render preview. Can anyone tell me why it just looks so... not good in general? When I compare it to MAYA low-poly trees on google images, it looks like garbage. Thanks!

very broad question.

in general it´s because of no lighting, shading and texturing!

which render engine are you using? 

as starting point place some light(s). if you are happy with that work on the materials. depending on the look you may want some color variation either by procedural or file textures.
