Missing geometry when opening a file, but the geometry is still in the Outliner

I've had this issue several times now. After modifying a pre-built character imported into Maya as an obj, parts of the model is missing once I reopen the file saved as ".ma". The geometry is still in the outliner even though I can not see it. The geo isn't hidden or in a render layer hidden.  When I select the geo in the outliner, no face/edges/verts are indicated as being selected in the . Even when I reload earlier versions from autosave, the same geometry will be missing. Oddly enough, if I delete the geo in the outliner and then immediately undo the delete, the geo may reappear in the scene. But that doesn't always work.

I found this thread but no solution. This is the exact same problem:

I am using Maya 2019.2

Latest gpu drivers.

This may not be it, but from the Renderer menu at the top of the viewport, try changing it from Viewport 2.0 to one of the legacy ones and see what happens.

*****SOLVED*****

As I turned out, I re-installed Windows and later Maya. After adding back software, I finally tracked the issue to my 3D mouse and its latest driver:
https://www.3dconnexion.com/service/drivers.html

It is an unique cross connection of issues since it has to involve Maya, RedShift and the 3d mouse. I have been using the 3D mouse for about two years. I can use the latest 3d mouse drivers with Maya 2019.2 but not with Redshift. Rolling back the drivers, Maya 2019.2 hangs on start up. I have to roll back Maya to 2018 to use the 3d mouse and Redshift 2.6v.

So if you are having strangeness with Maya 2019.2  (with Redshift) and are using 3DConnexion  3D mouse google maya and 3d mouse for more of others having issues.
